Solingen Ceramic Honing Rod 25 cm

Using a ceramic honing rod will keep your knife sharp for a long time, but even the best knives lose their edge over time, even with careful use. That’s why it’s important to sharpen your knives from time to time to fully enjoy their performance. It’s easier than you think.

Advantages:

  • Ceramic material: Ceramic is extremely hard (second only to diamond), making it ideal for honing steel edges without wearing down the blade too much.

  • Fine honing: Unlike a grooved steel rod, a ceramic rod not only realigns the edge but also refines it, helping to maintain a sharp edge for longer.

  • Solingen brand: Solingen (Germany) is world-renowned for its tradition in manufacturing knives and cutting tools. A ceramic honing rod from this region is usually synonymous with quality and precision.

  • Perfect for high-end kitchen knives, such as Japanese or German blades.

How to use:

  • Place the honing rod on a flat surface with the tip pointing down. Position the knife blade on the rod.

  • While honing, the angle between the blade and the rod should be approximately 20 degrees.

  • Glide the blade downward in a slight arc.

  • Repeat the motion on the opposite side of the rod to sharpen both sides of the blade.

  • Repeat steps 2 and 3 five to ten more times, alternating sides. Important: maintain the 20-degree angle and guide the full length of the blade—from the heel to the tip—along the rod in a consistent motion. Speed is not important.

  • Right-handed users should hold the rod in the left hand and the knife in the right. For left-handed users, it’s the opposite.

Care Instructions:

  • Wipe clean with a damp cloth after use.

  • Store in a safe place to avoid impact or falls.
